Jenny brings a positive attitude and an appreciation for architectural beauty to her role as marketing manager for the Higher Education studio.

She has decades of experience managing marketing campaigns and community relations, adding value to external and internal content, branding, local media relations, and events. She expertly cultivates relationships with colleagues, clients, and vendors to effectively plan and execute projects, all with a keen eye for design.

Jenny was raised in the countryside of Northeast Iowa by her parents, who instilled their work-hard, play-hard ethics in her and her older brothers.

That “can-do” attitude to persevere has helped her in many situations, such as photo shoots. She recalls one time when she asked a hired photographer if she could tag along for aerial photos of a construction project located in downtown Kansas City, MO. Flying doesn’t usually bother Jenny, and she thought it’d be fun. However, she didn’t expect queasiness from the hot outdoor temps, open plane windows, and being in a tiny, wobbly aircraft. She stuck it out, but now leaves that work to drone pilots!

One of the accomplishments she’s most proud of is growing a career in marketing and communications across various industries while raising two daughters. Off the clock, she enjoys spending time with her two rescued dogs, being outdoors, landscaping, and visiting family.

Who is your biggest hero and why?

My dad is my biggest hero. While working at John Deere during his career, he self-taught himself to remodel apartments (sweat equity) and restore cars (for fun and to enter in car shows). He did all of this without a mentor and long before the internet or DIY videos! He passed that knowledge and can-do attitude to my brothers and me. At 83, he still works on muscle cars in IA and AZ and is my #1 fix-it-guy when visiting KS.

What is your advice to young professionals in your field?

Be confident in yourself, don’t be afraid to share your ideas or opinions, and find a good mentor. Seek out leaders in your firm who recognize talent and teach staff, and your career growth will come automatically.

What is the best part of your job?

My favorite thing about doing marketing & BD in the AEC industry is experiencing the transition of work – from a capture plan, to an RFQ or RFP, interacting with different people across the firm, and then later promoting the finished project. For me, it’s very rewarding to see how a project is making a positive and sustainable impact on a community.
