A recent graduate with a Master of Architecture from the California College of the Arts, Negar brings exceptional design and graphic skills to our Health practice as an architectural designer. Her innovative approach and talent have already earned her a spot as one of Metropolis Magazine’s Future 100 in Architecture.

Negar’s award-winning project “Shell We Dance?” exemplifies her commitment to sustainability and innovation. This project transforms waste from eggs and shellfish into a novel building material, using locally sourced eggshells from a popular San Francisco restaurant. In collaboration with mathematicians and mechanical engineers, Negar and her team developed a new building system that includes moldable components and an adhesive tested at various scales. By exploring the chemical and biological structure of the material with UCSF’s cellular biology graduate students, the project investigates the potential for enhancing structural capacity with living bacteria. It won the Outstanding Science award at the 2024 BioDesign Challenge in New York.

As a healthcare architectural designer, Negar is committed to advancing change through evidence-based design, creating spaces that support healing and enhancing community integration. Her fresh perspective as an emerging professional aligns with our design philosophy to innovate and design healthcare spaces that meet and exceed the evolving needs of caregivers, patients, and communities alike.

What is your favorite building or landmark?

The Hill of the Buddha, Tadao Ando. To me, it’s a masterpiece. With the combination of simple geometries, sun light, shadows, light colors and the smell of lavender, he has created such an impressive quality of spaces that give you a very different experience and feeling.

What do you like to do outside of work?

When I am not at work, I enjoy baking, planting, creating digital collages, playing tennis and volleyball, biking, and spending time with my family.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A conductor, an artist and sculptor, and to have my own flower and plants shop.
