Children’s Health and Wellness Center
In Southern Monterey County, accessing quality healthcare can mean planning the whole day around it, with long drives, time away from work, and time away from school. For families with young children, that distance becomes more than an inconvenience; it becomes a barrier.
Mee Memorial Hospital, located in King City, California, is the only hospital within a 50-mile radius and serves a rural region that includes Greenfield and surrounding communities. For generations, it has been the healthcare anchor for the area as a place people rely on when care cannot wait. When Mee Memorial set out to expand pediatric services, the goal was clear: provide a dedicated place for children’s care that feels welcoming, modern, and built to support long-term wellness.
Treanor’s Health team partnered with Mee Memorial Healthcare System, a long-term client, to plan and design their Children’s Health and Wellness Center. This renovation expands pediatric access while strengthening the hospital’s ability to serve the community under its existing license and regulatory requirements.
Pediatric care that stays close to home
In rural communities, the distance between patients and care often shapes health outcomes. When families must travel far for routine appointments, preventative visits can slide down the priority list. Minor issues can grow into major ones, and parents are left carrying the stress of navigating healthcare systems not designed around their realities.
The Children’s Health and Wellness Center responds directly to that need by bringing pediatric services into a dedicated, right-sized environment where care is easier to access and built around the rhythms of families’ lives. By keeping pediatric care local, Mee Memorial reduces the burden of travel and creates a pathway for consistent, proactive healthcare. The Center effectively demonstrates what rural healthcare looks like when it is designed and supported with intention.
A healthcare clinic designed for wellness, flow, and resilience
The Treanor team approached this project with a belief we carry into every healthcare environment: architecture can be a powerful force for positive outcomes. That means the space should do more than just function; it should also support healing. It should reduce stress. It should work harder for caregivers. And it should adapt as healthcare continues to evolve.
The renovated pediatric clinic includes six exam rooms, an on-site lab, and a triage room, giving Mee Memorial the capacity to serve more children efficiently while supporting the full spectrum of pediatric visits. New equipment, finishes, and casework bring the space up to date while improving day-to-day functionality for staff, and incorporating a spirit of colorful playfulness that helps reduce stress on patients. Accessibility improvements are integrated throughout the center, creating a more welcoming experience for every family, regardless of mobility needs.
Operationally, the clinic was planned to simplify navigation, improve patient flow, and eliminate wasted effort. Clear circulation, intuitive organization, and a streamlined administrative experience reduce the friction that often slows care delivery. The result is a pediatric clinic that supports calm, clarity, and confidence from check-in through discharge.
Meeting today’s standards while planning for what comes next
Healthcare buildings carry a different kind of pressure. The work must be compliant, safe, and reliable, while still feeling human. That balance matters even more in pediatric environments where comfort and trust shape the experience as much as the medicine.
As part of the renovation, the building was upgraded to OSHPD 3 standards, including mechanical and plumbing updates that allow services to be provided under the hospital license. Those improvements support the hospital’s ability to meet tightening regulatory requirements while preparing the facility for evolving infectious disease protocols and future technology upgrades.
A healthier future for Monterey County
Access to healthcare lays the foundation for a lifetime of health and well-being. The Mee Memorial Children’s Health and Wellness Center sets a new standard for pediatric care in rural communities, proving that high-quality environments are not reserved for major cities or large medical campuses. They belong in the places where people live, work, and raise families.
For Mee Memorial, this project strengthens the hospital’s role as a trusted regional lifeline and supports the ability to attract funding and community support through visible, meaningful impact. For caregivers, it offers a more functional workplace and a space designed to support their mission. For families, it means fewer miles on the road and more consistent access to the care that helps kids thrive.
This is what advancing change looks like: a pediatric clinic designed for wellness, dignity, and long-term community health, built at the nexus of precision and possibility.
