Jasper County Courthouse

Treanor was the architect of record and designer for the new Jasper County Courthouse in Joplin, MO. The building set a new bar of excellence that the residents of Jasper County can be proud of and visitors can be inspired by. Through exceptional design, attention to detail and material, consideration of environmental responsibility, and understanding who the design is intended for, the design provides more than a courthouse for Jasper County but also a connection to the community that will ripple past the boundaries of the project site.  

The courthouse includes four jury-capable courtrooms, two hearing rooms, and other county court departments such as Circuit Clerk, Court Administration, and the Prosecuting Attorney. Additional space in the courthouse is given to other county departments such as County Clerk, Assessor, and Collector. Parking is provided for both staff and Judges in a below-grade level which also provides space for Security and Storage functions. The public user experience is a primary focus of the design, with naturally lit corridors, a large public entrance and lobby, and exterior public walks and plaza that guide the visitors to the courthouse entrance.

As you enter the building, the view to the North with floor-to-ceiling glass provides a calming and open affect for the public. The public corridors provide views to the outside and allow natural daylight into the space. These design elements help with de-escalation and the opportunity to see nature. The design team continually considered other major influences such as civic connectivity, judicial presence, safety and separation, and longevity throughout the planning and design process.
