Will Robarge Represents AIA Kansas at Hill Day in Washington, D.C.

Architects head to Capitol Hill to discuss pressing legislation
Will Robarge, associate principal at Treanor, is helping advocate for the future of cities, towns, and neighborhoods in Kansas and beyond. As the 2025 President of AIA Kansas, Will recently participated in a delegation in Washington, D.C., for Hill Day—a pivotal event where architects from across the country meet with lawmakers to advocate for policies that support the built environment, resilient communities, and the profession itself.
Joined by the AIA Kansas team, Will met with staff from Kansas Senators Moran and Marshall, as well as Representatives Estes, Mann, Schmidt, and Davids. Together, they discussed key legislative priorities that impact architects and the communities they serve.
It was a very intense three days and so invigorating to be on the front line for these things.

Advocating for policies that support the built environment
Hill Day is about ensuring that architects have a voice in shaping policies that directly affect their work. Will and the AIA Kansas team focused on five critical areas:
- Federal Tax Policy – Pushing for incentives like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and energy-efficient building credits to encourage sustainable development
- Resilient Design Policy – Advocating for stronger investment in FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Program to support communities facing climate-related challenges
- Housing Policies – Addressing the housing crisis by expanding federal programs that fund affordable and workforce housing initiatives
- Federal Design Policy – Upholding design freedom to ensure that public buildings reflect local needs rather than mandated architectural styles
- Federal Design Fee Policy – Calling for reforms to outdated fee caps that disproportionately impact architecture firms
Serving the Kansas community—and beyond
Architecture is about more than buildings—it’s about people. The policies Will and AIA Kansas championed during Hill Day directly impact the future of Kansas’ cities, towns, and neighborhoods.
By advocating for affordable housing initiatives, architects help provide Kansas families with access to safe and sustainable homes. Resilient design policies mean that communities will be better prepared for natural disasters. Fair tax policies enable architecture firms to continue innovating, creating jobs, and contributing to economic growth.
Treanor is proud to have leaders like Will who step up to represent architects at the national level. His work ensures that the voices of architects—especially those in Kansas—are heard in policy conversations that shape the future of the built environment.
