Ian brings 25 years of architectural experience and a deep passion for technology to his role as Director of Technology at Treanor. A licensed architect in Colorado, Ian’s career began at H+L Architecture (now Treanor) in Denver, and he is excited to return to the firm. With a focus on IT, BIM, and visualization, Ian will lead the firm’s efforts to stay on the cutting edge of architectural technology, driving innovation and efficiency across our projects.

Throughout his career, Ian has held key positions at firms such as Mortenson, RNL Design/Stantec, and MG AEC/Team D3, where he honed his experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC). Ian leverages this background and his knack for collaboration to drive strategic company initiatives forward, fostering important communication and workflow efficiencies.

Ian’s approach to technology aligns with our mission of leveraging data-driven, transparent processes to deliver smarter, more resilient architecture. Outside of work, Ian enjoys skiing, playing golf, and spending time with his wife, their two sons, and Hamilton the Labradoodle. We are thrilled to have Ian back with the team, leading our efforts to seamlessly integrate technology into every aspect of our practice.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with a wide group of people across multiple disciplines, offices, and levels of experience, all in an effort to help them be more effective in their work.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I have become an avid skier and enjoy watching my 13- and 11-year-old kids surpass me on the mountain. I have also started to take up golf, and while it isn’t always pretty, I do enjoy getting out there and trying to improve my game.

What is your advice to young professionals in your field?

Always check in on your career—your personal goals, and the progress you’ve made toward them. Revisit your goal and don’t become complacent. Challenge yourself, try something new or different. And make sure you’re enjoying, or even having fun, with whatever it is you’re doing.
