Good Samaritan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Good Samaritan Medical Center (GSMC) offers the highest quality of care to the most fragile babies born there. When GSMC was experiencing an increase in the number of newborns needing critical care, the hospital not only needed more room for the NICU but also wanted to create a better experience for families and staff. This resulted in a family-centered unit promoting privacy, bonding, and caring for infants in single-family rooms 24/7. In this environment, the parents can be more involved in the baby’s care with constant support from the expert NICU staff.

The 12 single-family private rooms and two private rooms for twins are equipped with the latest technology. Natural light in all rooms and a circadian rhythm light system allow the maximum support for the babies’ wake and sleep cycles. All rooms are visible from a nursing station for direct visualization of the patients. A family kitchen/nutrition area and lounge are located directly on the unit, allowing the family to be adjacent for nurturing babies while affording them the privacy they need for respite.
