Exceeding the needs of a growing campus

With Texas State University’s rapidly increasing enrollment, the need for thoughtfully designed on-campus housing became paramount. Research shows that students who live on campus are more engaged, more connected, and achieve higher academic success. In response to this growing demand, Texas State University introduced Sayers & Falls Halls—a 578-bed residential complex that blends modern amenities with a strong sense of community.

Sayers & Falls Halls were created to foster both academic achievement and personal well-being. This twin residence hall project meets the evolving needs of today’s students, offering an environment where they can thrive socially, academically, and creatively. The university’s goal was clear: provide more than just a place to sleep—design a home that inspires collaboration, nurtures creativity, and fosters a sense of belonging.

Designing spaces for learning, well-being, and connection

Our approach to the design of Sayers & Falls Halls focused on creating a space where student life and student success converge. Privacy and collaboration were equally prioritized. The residence halls feature communal areas that inspire interaction, alongside private rooms for when students need solitude and focus. The community building that connects the halls is a hub of academic and social activity, offering classrooms, study lounges, and multi-purpose spaces for students to gather, collaborate, or work independently.

The layout of Sayers & Falls was crafted with intentional flexibility to accommodate students’ varying needs. For example, the three courtyards scattered throughout the complex provide outdoor areas for relaxation, physical activity, or informal study sessions. Whether students are looking for a quiet place to read or a space for group discussions, the design offers a variety of settings to match different moods and activities.

An artist's touch: infusing creativity in student living spaces

Creating lasting impact on student life and beyond

Sayers & Falls Halls aren’t just buildings—they are catalysts for student success, well-being, and community. These spaces help students achieve a balanced life, offering the support they need to excel in their studies while encouraging social interaction and personal growth. The residence halls serve as a bridge between academic and social life, giving students a place where they can learn, connect, and recharge.

The positive impact of this project extends beyond its immediate residents. By fostering an environment that prioritizes community, learning, and creativity, Sayers & Falls Halls contribute to the broader campus culture. The spaces connect students to their peers, their studies, and the university’s vibrant history of artistic achievement.

For Texas State University, this project represents an investment in the future—a place where future generations of students can find a home that supports their academic journey, nurtures their creativity, and encourages meaningful connections. By creating a residential space that elevates student life and embraces the values of education, the project sets a new standard for higher education architecture.

Sayers & Falls Halls are more than just residence halls—they are foundational to the student experience at Texas State, promoting student success, enhancing campus life, and building a lasting legacy for future Bobcats.
