Renovating a sterile processing department during seismic retrofit
Treanor and Peacock Construction partnered as a progressive design-build team to complete the remodel, refresh, and infrastructure upgrades for the sterile processing department in their Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) as part of Seton’s major seismic retrofit. The hospital had previously planned to use a sterile processing trailer during the seismic structural upgrades, but in the middle of the structural work, the decision was made to provide a new SPD to better serve their ASC and provide redundancy for the hospital in the future.

Expedited reviews
With a tight three-month design and construction timeline—90% of the work was completed between Thanksgiving and New Year’s—streamlining signoffs from the hospital, expediting plan reviews, and gaining approvals from the AHJ was critical. We worked closely with OSHPD to obtain an agreement that allowed the hospital to use the SPD during construction. Demonstrating the design intent with a digital model in design review meetings with the client and the vendor, facilitated expedient approvals from the hospital stakeholders.

Working in an active OR department
Existing processing facilities were small and antiquated. This project remodeled existing underutilized spaces for the new SPD in a fully functional OR Department. This required an elevated focus on infection control measures, and as a result the work completed with no shutdowns, limiting the impact on patient care.
