Successful chapter house modernization

Delta Gamma desired updated exterior and interior renovations to their historic home at the University of Georgia. Built in 1968, the original house’s mansard roof dated the house. To create a more timeless look appropriate to its location within a historic district, the roof was removed, and a new three-story façade was designed with new traditional windows, a classical gable, and a two-story porch, giving the house a refined look. Additional renovations to the foyer created a grand stair at the bottom of the existing fire staircase. A wheelchair lift was added to allow the main level public spaces to be accessible by all.

Additional phases of the project included major interior renovations to the main level public spaces including removing the walls between the living and dining spaces so that the rooms can be used jointly for chapter meetings, removing an enormous fireplace to open the living room, and adding a serving area and walk-in refrigeration to the kitchen. The chapter house can accommodate 275+ members for gatherings. The project was successfully completed in three summer phases not to interrupt the chapter’s operations and so that members could live in the chapter house during the academic year.
